BAR LISSA is a hybrid siege machine, swing, and bar. Plaster sculptures by the 19th century sculptor Theodor Charlemont are mounted on a ram-like construction. These represent the bows of ancient ships. The title alludes to the 1866 naval battle of Lissa, which was decided in an „atavistic“ manner using ramming tactics. Placed in the context of an old castle park, the intervention also takes on a humorous aspect of a siege of the client by the artist. The swinging of the beam suggests the constant action-reaction dynamics of a conflict; the nature of its movement has a sexual connotation, yet it is also a satirical allusion to martial-phallic gestures.
